Blackjack in the Heart of Las Vegas
October 26, 2022

This particular variation of blackjack got its name because it is somewhat based around the land-based game that can be found in the Downtown area of Las Vegas. As many people are aware, there are several versions of the blackjack game that can be played, and this particular version got its name because it is somewhat based around that game.

Since its introduction, Vegas Downtown Blackjack has become one of the more popular variations of the game. This is due to the fact that it has one of the lowest house edges and exceptionally liberal rules when it comes to playing the game. It is now available on a wide variety of different online gaming platforms.

The Downtown Area of Vegas Is King

Given that Vegas Downtown is a blackjack game, the majority of the guidelines that govern how you play are, unsurprisingly, quite similar to those that govern the traditional blackjack game. However, what specific rules distinguish this particular variation from the others?

Only two decks of cards are used when playing Vegas Downtown Blackjack. The dealer must stand on hard 17 and above, although they may hit on soft 17.
Any initial two-card hand is eligible for doubling down play by players.
After dividing their pot, players have the option of double down.
The players will re-split their hands into a total of three different ones.
When the dealer’s up card is an Ace, he is permitted to look at his face-down card to determine whether or not he has blackjack.
Bets can only be placed in one spot per player.
Card counters tend to choose this variation of blackjack over others due to the increased ease of play brought about by the usage of only two decks in the game. A further advantage is the fact that players can “double down” on any hand that was initially dealt to them, as well as after splitting their cards.

Blackjack Variations on the Vegas Strip Compared to Those in Downtown Vegas

Vegas Downtown is not to be confused with the blackjack game found on the Vegas Strip, which also has a similar name. The two distinct versions each have a few very different characteristics. To begin, Vegas Strip Blackjack is played with four decks of cards rather than two, and the only time the dealer is allowed to hit a soft 17 is if the player has a soft 17 of their own. The rules about doubling down and re-splitting remain unchanged, as does the fact that the dealer may glance at his cards to determine whether or not he has blackjack if he has been dealt an Ace with its face up position showing.

In Vegas Strip Blackjack, players are also restricted to playing just one wager position at a time. Therefore, despite the fact that the only two distinct rules pertain to the decks used in play and the dealer’s standings, there is still a discernible difference between the two versions of the game. Because there are four decks, card counters will find it far more difficult to win at the game on the Vegas Strip. This is only the beginning of the challenges they will face.
